Educating children is extremely important to us at Rand Farm Park. As a school you can choose our ‘Hire an Incubator’ outreach programme, stay on a residential trip, or visit us for a day.
Either way, you’ll find us extremely educational, informative and “hands on”. Lots of schools visit Rand Farm Park every year and return again and again.
That’s because we make learning about farming, food and the environment great fun!
Before your eyes, see new life emerging and hire an incubator for your school. This is a unique opportunity for your class and truly memorable for pupils.
We offer visiting schools a reduced fee for our “Incubators in Schools Scheme” if it’s booked as part of a day/residential visit.
An experienced member of the Rand Farm Park Education Team will visit you to set up the incubator with 7-10 fertile eggs that will hatch in 21 days, as well as give you an Incubation Calendar.
You will be shown how to “candle” the eggs which allows you to see the embryo develop inside the egg. You can check on the development regularly but the excitement really starts when the eggs hatch and the chicks emerge. After a few days caring for the new arrivals, we will return to pick them up and the incubator (or you can keep them if you prefer).
As a school, you are also invited to visit our hatchery on the farm to view many different types of poultry at different stages of growth and development. We offer day visits to schools, as well as a residential programme all year round.
On arrival, you will receive a timetable with all the daily activities including lamb or calf bottle-feeding, rabbit and guinea pig handling sessions, as well as plenty of baby animals to see.
For all schools we provide free bags of animal feed and all schools can board our tractor and trailer ride to look at animals outside in the paddocks (weather permitting).
